PLATTSMOUTH — With a new roster due to the graduation of nine seniors, the Wahoo softball team didn’t miss a beat against Plattsmouth on the road on Aug. 22 in their season opener. Behind an 11-hit performance, the Warriors defeated the Blue Devils by a final of 10-4.
In the top of the first, Wahoo came out swinging with four runs.
The first run was scored by Adelia Dunalap on a wild throw to third after a bunt was laid down by Olivia Wesley. A walk issued by Plattsmouth and then a single by Bryer Hanco*ck produced three more runs for the Warriors.
After the hot start from Wahoo, the Blue Devils got one run back in the bottom half of the inning.
The next scoring opportunity for the Warriors came in the fourth after Avery Hanson doubled to center with two outs. A pair of wild pitches brought her to the plate and put Wahoo up 5-1.

In the top of the fifth, the Warriors got their first home run of the season off the bat of Addison Gregg. It was a two-run shot to center field that put Wahoo ahead by six.
For the second time in the game, Hanco*ck singled in the sixth. Her hit was deep enough to score Wesley and make it an 8-3 contest in favor of the Warriors.
A groundout by Avery Hanson and an error on a hit from Snyder tacked on two more runs for Wahoo in the seventh and helped them secure a six-run victory.
Hanco*ck led the way offensively with two hits and three RBIs, while Gregg had two hits and two runs batted in. All driving in one run with at least one hit were Hanson, Snyder, and Wesley.
Starting on the mound and going all seven innings with two earned runs given up and 11 strikeouts was Snyder.
On Aug. 24, the Warriors traveled to the Doris Bair Softball Complex where they took part in the Freeman Invite. Wahoo finished with a 2-1 record overall with wins over Polk County and Columbus Lakeview.
The Warriors kicked off the tournament against the Polk County Slammers on Saturday morning in Lincoln. Behind eight runs in the first two innings, Wahoo secured a 12-3 win in five innings.
It was a great offensive game for the Warriors, who racked up 10 hits. They also took advantage of eight errors that were committed by Polk County.
Having a career game with three hits and five RBIs was Gregg while Hanco*ck, Wesley, and Hanson all drove in one run.
On the mound, Eddie pitched all five innings, gave up two earned runs, and set down three Slammer batters on strikes.
Next up for Wahoo was a matchup with one of the top teams in Class C, Hastings St. Cecilia. In the game, Wahoo committed three errors and fell by a final of 7-3.
Most of the damage done by Hawkettes came in the fifth inning where they put up five runs. The Warriors runs came in the first where they scored two and in the sixth where they added one.
Finishing with one hit and one RBI was Karryn Eddie.
Snyder started on the mound and pitched 3.2 innings, gave up one earned run, and set down one batter on strikes. Elsie Olbert pitched 1.1 innings, gave up no earned runs and struck out one batter.
Wahoo finished the day with a strong outing, picking up their first shutout of the year by a score of 11-0 against Lakeview in four innings.
After being held scoreless in the first, the Warriors bounced back with five runs in the second. They followed that up with six more runs in the third, which put the run rule into effect.
Both getting two hits and driving in two runs were Dunlap and Gregg. Emma Meyer, Makayla Kenning, and Eddie all had at least one hit and one RBI.
Pitching four innings for Wahoo with no earned runs surrendered was Olbert.
The Warriors played at Malcolm on Aug. 27 and then returned home to take on Omaha Roncalli/duch*esne Academy on Aug. 29. They will be at the Syracuse Softball Tournament at 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 31.
